Rich married Cheryl Cappiello on July 19, 2008 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Tenafly, N.J. The Rev. Leonard J. Gilman, a Roman Catholic priest and the pastor of the church, performed the ceremony. His wife, Cheryl is a former affiliate on the Roseland, New Jersey, legislation company Lowenstein Sandler. She is also a law graduate from New York University and Boston University.
The couple met in 1995 as members of the Dumont High School marching band. Cappiello was starting her senior year while Rich was a freshman. They lost contact after graduating and reconnected years later through email after which they started dating.
Cappiello is the daughter of Annette and Peter Cappiello both from Dumont, New Jersey. Her mother worked at AT&T as a customer service representative while her father was a Meter Inspector at Con Edison in New York.
