She conducted a groundbreaking investigations concerning the 2018 Catholic Church sexual abuse scandal that received critical acclaim. Battiste’s reports led to two clergy abuse survivors who were sitting face-to-face with the priest they say abused them when they were children.
In a different investigation with the network’s investigative unit, she and her team unveiled allegations of sexual abuse against a priest who was still in active ministry in the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese, over which Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop president presided.
DiNardo was removed from the ministry after the allegations we confirmed. Battiste also revealed the story of nuns sexually abusing children that led to more than 40 victims step forward.
In February 2019, she traveled to Rome to cover Pope Francis’ Vatican summit while addressing the clergy abuse crisis. During her time in CBS, she has covered various stories and events including the gun debate in America, and was also the first to report about armed teachers in classrooms which led to a national conversation.
Battiste has written and reported several stories for “CBS News Evening News” series “Eye on America”, including the debate over arming college students on campus and a teachers strike in Sacramento.
In addition, for her “Eye on America” report, she sat down with five sisters sexually assaulted by the same priest. She has also covered other several breaking news for the TV network including the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, Hurricane Michael, the case of Colorado missing mother, the New Zealand mosque shooting, and Kelsey Berreth.
