Nye started as a mechanical engineer for Boeing Corporation in Seattle where he invented the hydraulic resonance tube which was used in 747 airplanes. Bill then left the corporation to purse his career as comedian. He worked for a tv show “Almost live” then run a children’s program, “Bill Nye the Science Guy” on Seattle tv station.
Bill Nye later became the CEO of Planetary Society and helped in developing sundials for the Mars Exploration Rovers mission. Nye has also made several media appearance including in “Dancing with the stars” and “The Big Bang Theory”.

In 1999, he was given an honorary doctorate of science degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic .
