Allen Martin Biography
Allen Martin is an American journalist who anchors hour-long, weeknight 5 pm and 6 pm newscast at KPIX-5 (CBS affiliate) in San Francisco Bay Area and report special projects across all KPIX 5 platforms since August 2004. Previously, before joining KPIX-5, Allen worked as an anchor at KION TV in Monterey, CA for six years.
In 1983, he moved to Atlanta for a job at a news talk radio station. Allen was hired at CNN’s Radio network before taking a TV writing job at CNN’s Headline News. In March 1986, he accepted his first on-air TV job at KHBS-KHOG TV in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Allen left the station in June 1991 after promotions to assistant news director and main anchor at the station for five years.
Allen returned to his native California to be a principal anchor at the Salinas NBC affiliate KSBW TV (Jun 1991 – Aug 1995). He was there four years, co-anchoring with the popular Dina Eastwood, the wife of Clint Eastwood.
After the Oklahoma City bombing, Allen accepted the main anchor position at KFOR TV (Aug 1995 – Aug 1998) in Oklahoma City. In September 1998 Allen returned to California and the Monterey Peninsula to anchor and be the assistant news director for KION TV and other CBS/FOX affiliate stations until Aug 2004 when he left for KPIX 5.
He joined KPIX5 San Francisco Bay Area in Aug 2004. He started as a South Bay reporter and subsequently co-anchored 6 pm weeknight newscasts and files special reports across all KPIX 5 platforms. If he is not at the anchor desk, Allen profiles some of the Bay Area’s humble heroes as part of the Jefferson Awards, a national initiative that honors recognizes service across America.
Allen has won received numerous Emmy Awards for his anchoring and coverage at KPIX, along with honors from the Associated Press Television Radio Association as well as the Oklahoma and Arkansas Association of Broadcasters. He enjoys fly fishing, remodeling projects, cycling, and spending time with his family.
